ENQUIRE

If you’ve heard that dermal fillers can be used to improve the appearance of facial lines and wrinkles, you may be wondering exactly what they are and what they do.

The dermal fillers we use here at Aesthetics Lab are made from a synthetic version of hyaluronic acid, which is a naturally-occurring sugar/carbohydrate that is usually found in the cushioning fluid between the connective cells of the human body. As well as being found in the eyes and joints, hyaluronic acid is also an important component of young, healthy skin that starts off wrinkle-free and with plenty of volume.

As we move into our 20s onwards, our body’s natural stores of hyaluronic acid start to get smaller. You will notice this in the mirror as your skin starts to lose some of its definition and volume. You may notice deeper tear troughs under your eyes, hollow cheeks, and deeper nose to mouth lines that can make you look a bit downcast.

With dermal fillers, we can inject hyaluronic acid back into targeted areas of your face to hydrate and add volume to that region.

What we can treat with dermal fillers

Dermal fillers are most suitable for the static lines and wrinkles that are visible on your face all the time. If you would like to improve the appearance of expressive lines and wrinkles, such as crows’ feet or frown lines, that appear when your face is animated, then wrinkle reducing injections might be more suitable.

Dermal fillers are particularly ideal for use in the lower half of the face. We most commonly use them for:

  • Adding volumes to deep temple depressions
  • Addressing dark circles/hollows under your eyes (tear trough)
  • Non-surgical nose correction
  • Cheek enhancement
  • Nose-to-mouth lines/Nasolabial fold
  • Marionette lines
  • Lip enhancement
  • Smokers’ lines
  • Sad mouth
  • Jawline contouring
  • Chin augmentation
  • Neck lines

Using dermal fillers in combination with other treatments

Dermal fillers can work well when used in combination with other treatments, such as wrinkle injections, for a more ‘total’ approach to rejuvenating your appearance.

Just small quantities of dermal fillers can help to enhance your features and chase away some of the shadows and lines caused by the normal ageing process. Dermal fillers are popular because they have an excellent safety record and offer temporary results. This makes having dermal fillers a far less drastic way of lifting your features than a surgical facelift, for example.

Seek professional advice

Before you have a treatment using dermal fillers, you should always ask for advice from an experienced aesthetic practitioner in a medically-led setting. Dermal fillers are widely tolerated, but you should always have the opportunity to discuss your individual case and whether dermal fillers are the best option for you. This is also a chance to find out about the pros and cons of the treatment, aftercare, potential side effects, and how long the results will last.

One of the many reasons that dermal fillers are so popular is that the results can be seen straightaway and you shouldn’t need to take any time out of your day to recuperate after your treatment.
