What is the Hyperpigmentation Treatment?
Pigmentation changes, freckles and age spots are a sign that the cells responsible for creating melanin in your skin have become unhealthy or damaged. Usually, this is caused by sun damage, hormones, genetics and/or the natural ageing process.
IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) is a fast and effective non-invasive hyperpigmentation treatment that can reduce or, in some cases, remove skin discolouration. Our medical-grade IPL machine utilises industry-leading and award-winning technology to pulse highly targeted light energy into the damaged melanin-dense cells. The energy in the light is absorbed by the damaged cells and converted into heat energy, which breaks the bonds between the cells, causing them to disperse. The result? A clearer, more even complexion.

Step 1: Consultation
Before your hyperpigmentation treatment with IPL, we’ll talk to you about your skin health and daily skincare regime, as well as any factors that might be affecting your skin (for example, sun protection, hormones, etc.) We’ll then conduct a thorough skin assessment and perform a patch test. Feel free to ask questions – we want to know what matters to you!
Step 2: During your treatment
During the procedure, we use a handheld device to pulse broad wavelength light onto the area of hyperpigmentation. The skin captures and absorbs the energy in the light, transforming it into heat, which severs the bonds between the pigment-dense cells and causes them to break down. Cooling technology within the device ensures that you will feel comfortable throughout.
Step 3: After the treatment
The after-effects of hyperpigmentation treatment are usually mild. You may experience some superficial redness that self-resolves almost immediately following the procedure. We’re skilled and highly experienced at using the IPL technology for different skin types, understanding how to adjust the light pulses for thinner skin or darker skin types, for example – this minimises potential side effects.

Typically, we recommend a course of six treatments, and you should see ongoing improvements to your skin with each appointment.
