“Aesthetics Lab bespoke medi-facial treatment

Here goes with a confession: “I’m a squeezer”. I can’t resist blocked pores and blackheads – even when they’re not on my face. If you ever catch me staring intently at you, you might want to make quick your escape and have a check in the mirror. I find a kindred spirit in Gwen, my therapist at Primrose Hill’s sparklingly new Aesthetics Lab, who would like to perform some ‘extractions’ during my bespoke facial. Apparently some people have a problem with this. I can’t understand why, but then I’ve always loved a ‘doing’ facial – plinky plunky music and gentle strokes are all very relaxing, but I want to see results, and experience has taught me that those have to be worked for. 

 We start with a skin consultation – I’m put under a spotlight, my face is examined microscopically, and a treatment plan and product prescription agreed. This begins with steaming and manual extraction (yup, that’s squeezing) to remove impurities and clear clogged pores, before moving on to some facial yoga. Actually a facial massage technique using stretching, kneading, pressure points and lymph draining elements, it’s designed to reduce tension around the face, head and neck, with the added benefit of lifting, firming and de-puffing skin. Much like my experience of yoga classes, I vacillate between feeling gloriously chilled out, and mildly uncomfortable (which I love: see earlier point about working for results). Finally a spot of Lipotripsy focusing on my fine lines – the non-invasive technique uses a probe to pass radical waves deep into the dermis, to promote the production of collagen and elastin, whilst lifting and firming. Magical and totally painless.

 I’m dying to see the results, and I’m not disappointed – my skin is glowing and I’m happy to leave without reapplying make-up (almost unheard of). I take with me a personal product plan (a combination of Epionce and Dermaquest) to help me maintain the results at home. And to ensure that I’m still happy a week later, Gwen gives me a follow up phone call to check up on my skin.
