How do PDO Threads work?

There are many options when it comes to dealing with the natural signs of ageing we all go through. Developments in this area have allowed for ingenious innovations, such as PDO Mono Threads.

To understand the benefits of PDO Mono Threads it’s important to understand how they work. Once you have talked with one of our experts and discussed any questions or concerns you may have, a local anaesthetic will be used to allow you to be comfortable during the treatment. This is the only form of anaesthetic which will be used during a treatment session, so you do not need to worry about a general anaesthetic and everything that comes with it.

There is no need for any large incisions to be made in your skin in order to insert the threads, but rather just a cannula is needed. Once the threads are inserted and attached to an anchoring point in the face or scalp the threads are pulled to produce a lifting effect on your skin.

Along with providing a physical lift to your skin, once the threads have been inserted into your skin they continue to help your skin by promoting the stimulation of collagen and neovascularization. This is because of the presence of PDO (polydioxanone), and the result of this means you can see improvements in skin elasticity, texture, fine lines and volume even after the threads have been inserted.

Are they safe?

PDO Mono Threads are well established and safe. PDO has been used in orthopaedic and cardiovascular surgeries for over 30 years and is biodegradable, meaning the body will break down and naturally absorb PDO threads in 6-8 months after insertion, however, the overall results can last for up to one year.

Treatment step-by-step

Step 1: Consultation

As with any treatment at Aesthetics Lab, we will always take time to discuss your aims and medical history to work out if this treatment is the right option for you or if something else would be better. This is also a great time for you to talk to us about any questions or concerns you may have with the treatment.

Step 2: During your treatment

Your treatment will be carried out by our experienced Doctor in a sterile environment. Local anaesthetic will be used meaning you won’t feel a thing during the treatment. Our Doctor will then start inserting the threads in the relevant areas of your face to combat sagging in the cheeks, eyebrows, jawline or chin. Your procedure will last about 45-60 mins.

Step 3: After the treatment

You should make a full recovery in 5-10 days following the insertion of PDO Mono Threads. There may be some swelling and bruising, however, everyone reacts differently to treatments. Your recovery is of paramount importance to us so we will take the time to discuss with you what you should expect and how best to complete your recovery and continue to see fantastic results from your skincare.

Do the threads need to be removed?

The threads will naturally break down over time and be absorbed by your body so there is no need to have them removed.

Will I be able to go on with my day after treatment?

Yes, you will be able to go about your day as normal following the threads being inserted. You may find some bruising and swelling develops but a full recovery should be made in 5-10 days.

  I recently had a facial at Aesthetics Lab, and I can say that without a doubt it was the best treatment I have ever received. From the consultation which was very thorough, in which we discussed each of my concerns in depth, to the facial itself, which was incredible. I have had many facials in the past and none of them have been of this high standard. I was then recommended some products which I purchased from the clinic and have been using ever since. They have done wonders for my skin, and I will definitely be returning! I cannot recommend Aesthetics Lab enough, the staff are so lovely and accommodating and the treatments are fantastic!

  Emma and the aesthetics lab team are INCREDIBLE! I very rarely write reviews, but I am so happy with my experience with Emma, that I have to! I have recently been trying to explore how to optimise my skin. This is all new to me, so I was a bit hesitant and unsure going into the process. Unfortunately, I had a very bad experience at a different clinic with a facial-gone-wrong, and am dealing with ongoing acne as a result. Carolyn helped me with my initial consultation. She was very welcoming and empathetic to my situation, making me feel very comfortable. I had my first session the same day with Emma. I did a light treatment and the experience was fantastic. Emma immediately made me feel comfortable. She understood the concerns and hesitations that I had and was very patient answering my many questions. I felt very calm and could tell how experienced she was. I had such a great experience that I booked again and came back for my second treatment with Emma that same week. This time I got a hydra facial. It was again, a fantastic experience. I was so impressed with all of her knowledge on how the products work, her advice on what my skin might respond best to, and her understanding and empathy towards my situation.   I have recently finished a course of Laser Hair Removal with Aesthetics Lab and could not recommend it enough , from the moment I walked in the staff were so welcoming and professional. The clinic itself is accessible, modern and exceptionally clean.

I had 6 sessions targeting under my arms and legs which was painless and really effective with no redness or rashes which I have previously experienced when waxing, my only regret is I didn't visit sooner!!
