With the weather in the UK finally taking a nosedive into the chillier temperatures we usually associate with winter, exposing your legs to the elements is probably the last thing on your mind. But if you want your legs to look as smooth and hair-free as possible by the time your summer holiday rolls around, the winter is a great time to take action, especially if you’re considering laser hair removal.
To see the optimal results from laser hair removal, you will typically need six appointments approximately four to six weeks apart. This is because all the hair follicles in the human body follow a three-phase cycle of growth, shedding and rest. During each treatment, we hope to catch hairs that have moved into the growth stage that might have been in the shedding or rest phases during your previous treatment sessions.
Laser hair removal works by transmitting heat through the melanin that gives your hair its colour down into the active hair follicles. The heat destroys the cells in each follicle, meaning that they are no longer able to produce hair. After six treatments, most people see a permanent reduction in their hair growth.
As you can see though, laser hair removal is not an overnight process. Six treatments four to six weeks apart means that you may not see the optimal results of the hair removal process for another 24 to 36 weeks. Given that we’re writing this blog in January that takes us into June and beyond, just when you may be wanting to hit the beach or show off your legs in a summer dress.
The good news is that you should notice some hair reduction approximately two weeks after your initial appointment, as the first active hairs treated begin to shed. Each treatment after that should help you see further improvement so that, by the time the warmer months roll around, your legs will look the best they’ve ever looked.
