Your face is precious and, in the right hands, anti-wrinkle injections such as Wrinkle Injections and dermal fillers can offer excellent results that enhance your natural beauty. In the wrong hands, however, these treatments can be less than satisfactory.
When you are looking for wrinkle injections it is important to feel confident that you can ask questions at every stage of your rejuvenating treatment. A good cosmetic doctor will welcome questions if they haven’t already given you the information you need, and seek to give you clear and transparent answers so that you can make informed decisions about your treatment.
A report by an Australian PR company, Edleman, on behalf of the Informed Beauty campaign for Allergan, highlighted some troubling figures in 2014. The report found that although 90% of anti-wrinkle injection users claim that they are careful about what is injected into their face to minimise wrinkles, 71% did not know what product they had received; 22% hadn’t had a discussion about the safety and potential side effects; and 47% did not realise that there are even different kinds of anti-wrinkle injections.
Here at Aesthetics Lab, we wouldn’t be prepared to offer a treatment without the client’s full involvement in the decision but, even in the most diligent of clinics, it’s vital that you feel you can ask questions and make a decision about your treatment only once you have been fully informed and have realistic expectations.
Below, we’ve put together our list of seven essential questions to ask before having an injectables treatment:
There are several different brands of wrinkle-relaxing injections licensed for use in the UK. It is important to ask what brand or brands your cosmetic doctor uses and why they have chosen those particular brands.
If you have chosen to have a dermal filler treatment to smooth away your fine lines and wrinkles, it’s equally important to find out which brand or brands the practitioner intends to use and why. Asking the doctor at what depth they plan to inject the fillers can also be revealing because it will show the extent of their knowledge. If you’re seeking lip enhancement, check whether your doctor plans to use a dermal filler specially formulated for the lips.
The reported side effects are comparable but we would always recommend asking your cosmetic doctor for their insights.
We use leading dermal filler brands and are familiar with any contraindications for treatment and potential side effects, which we always discuss during the initial consultation.
Leading wrinkle injections brands all have an excellent safety record, which your doctor should be willing to discuss with you before your treatment. Like any cosmetic medical product, we would always advise you to seek treatment from a qualified, experienced and fully registered cosmetic medical doctor.
Before you undergo any treatment it is important to understand what the treatment will entail, when you should expect to see some results, and what your aftercare will involve.
Wrinkle injections are not a permanent solution to wrinkles and fine lines. In fact, this is one of the reasons that these treatments are popular. How long your treatment lasts will depend on factors such as the volume of product used, the grade and severity of your wrinkles, the injection site and how your body breaks down the products. Your doctor should be able to give you a general guide to how long you should enjoy the results of your treatment.
Although cosmetic doctors, like other medical professionals, need to respect their patients’ confidentiality, most will be able to show you before and after images of other patients, client testimonials, or even give you the opportunity to speak to someone who has had the same treatment to see how they feel about it.
With events like Injectable parties in the media, you’d be forgiven for thinking that anyone can administer wrinkle injections but this isn’t the case. We would always caution you to find out as much as possible about the practitioner you’re thinking of choosing for your treatment. How many years’ experience do they have? How many patients have they treated? Where and when did they train? Do they teach other doctors or have they ever acted in a consultative role? These are all good indicators of experience.
Above all, remember that you are fully in control of your treatment. Choose a practitioner who you trust and who comes highly recommended, and you will be able to relax knowing you’re in safe hands.
