Facelifts have long been one of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures but the prospect of going under the knife can be daunting. For some people, it’s just not a risk they’re prepared to take – irrevocably changing the appearance of their face under general anaesthetic – while other people aren’t ready to take that step yet, want minimally invasive treatments or are restricted by their budget.

It’s perhaps little wonder that people have started to turn to non-surgical facelifts as a middle ground, helping them to smooth away fine lines and wrinkles and redefine their face without undergoing surgery and the associated recovery times.

You may have heard of thread lifts, which are growing in popularity throughout the UK. Here at Aesthetics Lab, we offer Thread Lifts with PDO threads as well as Silhouette Soft Lift. However, in this article, we will be talking about PDO thread lift only.

PDO threads are essentially surgical threads made from the most medically advanced polydixanone (PDO). They have been used in surgical procedures for decades because the material is well tolerated by the human body, strong, and gradually breaks down and is reabsorbed by the body. There are rarely complications from using this material. PDO threads are often used in heart surgery because they are so strong.

With the Thread Lift with PDO threads, our Doctor introduces the threads into the skin of your face using a very fine needle. The threads create a supportive mesh under your skin that immediately lifts its appearance, so the areas around your jowls, chin and cheeks look much firmer and more youthful.

The benefits of this treatment continue over the coming weeks and months because your body will see the threads as a foreign body and create more collagen and elastin – the building blocks of younger skin – as part of the healing process. In turn, this will cause your skin to look smoother and firmer, giving it back some lovely, refreshed roundness.

Facelifts using PDO threads can significantly improve the appearance of forehead lines, eye bags, crows’ feet, under eye dark circles, nose to mouth lines, marionette lines, jowls, sagging facial skin, sagging neck skin, necklines, and wrinkles on the décolletage.

Our Doctor is also skilled enough to use the Thread Lift with PDO threads technique on sagging elbows, upper arms, your thighs, abdomen and bottom. Body lift treatments using PDO threads require a special level of skill and are only available at a small number of doctor-led clinics.
