Non-invasive IPL treatment can treat a wide range of skin concerns including pigmentation, sun damage, rosacea and acne using high-intensity, broad-spectrum light. In addition, it improves your overall skin tone and brightness and visibly reduces fine lines and wrinkles.

Intense Pulsed Light or IPL treatment uses high-intensity bursts of light to break down cells of specific colours within your skin – for example, red thread veins or darker areas of pigmentation. This makes it a fantastic choice if you want to tackle issues such as broken veins, rosacea, acne or sun damage.
As well as destroying the targeted cells, the heat from the light stimulates your body’s natural healing response to create new collagen and elastin. These are both integral to strong, healthy skin, and you will notice that your skin looks and feels firmer and smoother.
We use an award-winning, medical-grade IPL machine to deliver IPL treatment at Aesthetics Lab. By using light on different wavelengths, this technology is capable of targeting and treating multiple skin conditions at the same time – some can be dealt with in as little as one session.
Our IPL machine features high-precision filters that we can modify to make the light respond in a certain way to the skin condition(s) we need to treat. This allows for exceptionally precise and personalised treatment to give you the best results.
The technology also includes an integrated cooling system to minimise any possible uncomfortable sensations and protect your skin against blistering or overheating.
Following IPL treatment, your skin tone should look far more even, with significant improvements to scarring, rosacea or other areas of discolouration.
At Aesthetics Lab, our medical-grade IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) machine really stands apart. It utilises innovative, award-winning technology capable of targeting and treating multiple skin conditions.

You’ll have a consultation before your IPL treatment to discuss your medical history, skin health, and treatment goals, and to ensure there are no contraindications. This is an opportunity to ask us any questions you might have about your treatment. We will be happy to answer them.
During this treatment, we’ll use a handheld device to pulse broad wavelength light onto your skin. In turn, your skin will capture and absorb the energy in the light, transforming it into heat, which damages any dilated veins, pigment or acne bacteria, and reduces their appearance, leaving your skin looking clearer after each session.
Thanks to the innovative technology in our IPL machine, you shouldn’t experience any discomfort during the procedure.
There is usually no downtime after IPL treatment and most people are able to go back to their daily activities straight away. However, you may experience slight redness, swelling or scabbing in the treatment area due to the fact that some skin cells have been destroyed and others are healing. Always follow the aftercare advice to ensure the best results.
We recommend that you avoid sun exposure for at least two weeks before and after each treatment and that you wear SPF.
Although your skin will show clear improvements after just one treatment, you should see ongoing improvements after each IPL session.
Our IPL machine features an integrated cooling system – the Sapphire Spot – that’s designed to minimise any discomfort during this treatment and protect your skin against overheating or blistering. In our experience, most people find IPL surprisingly comfortable, but others do describe a stinging or snapping sensation (a bit like an elastic band being pinged against the skin!) with each pulse of light. This is generally mild and tolerable.
IPL treatment can cause some minor side effects such as redness, bruising, swelling or scabbing of the skin. These usually ease within a matter of hours to a couple of days. Our Aestheticians are highly experienced at using this technology to address a wide range of issues and will give you detailed aftercare information for the best results.
Intense Pulsed Light treatment is generally considered safe for most skin types, but it may not be suitable for everyone. If you have a very dark skin tone or a recent tan, you may be at a higher risk of experiencing side effects, such as hyperpigmentation, because your skin contains more melanin, which absorbs the light energy from this procedure.
One of the reasons that we always start with a consultation is to review whether the treatment you want is right for your skin.
