Our PRP Hair Loss Treatment uses what’s known as Platelet Rich Plasma therapy to harness the healing and growth factors found in your own blood and target them. PRP is proven to slow down hair loss and, in some cases, increase hair thickness and eventual regrowth.

When you come to Aesthetics Lab for your PRP for hair loss treatment, we will take a small sample of your blood in the same way as your doctor would take blood for a blood test. We then pop this sample into our state-of-the-art centrifuge to separate your platelet-rich plasma from the red blood cells.
We then use our micro-needling device, Nanopore to needle in the plasma into your hair follicles, encouraging healthy cell production. The growth factors in PRP have been shown to generate new hair growth as well as improve the health and density of your existing hair. Our method of needling in the plasma rather than injecting it ensures more even and effective penetration of the substance.
When addressing hair loss, PRP therapy delivers the best outcomes in cases of male pattern baldness (androgenic alopecia) and female pattern baldness but can be used to address hair loss caused by other conditions, genetic and hormonal factors.
As your hair follicles go through different stages in their life cycle, you will probably need several treatments to enjoy the best results
PRP can be an excellent treatment to address hair loss but it’s important that we see you first to assess your individual case. We’ll look at the nature and extent of your hair loss and explain what we would hope to achieve for you using PRP. It’s important that you have realistic expectations and that you’re a suitable candidate. If we think another treatment option would be better, we will discuss this with you.
Please do ask us any questions you may have – we’ll always answer openly and honestly and do our very best to set realistic expectations about the treatment outcomes.
We’ll take you through to one of our beautiful treatment rooms where Dr Holler will take a sample of your blood. This is much the same procedure as having a blood test. We’ll then put your blood sample in our Cellenis centrifuge to extract your platelet-rich plasma. This takes a matter of minutes.
Having harvested your PRP, Dr Holler will run a micro-needling device over your scalp to create hundreds of tiny micro-channels into your skin and hair follicles into which we massage the PRP.
These micro-channels close almost instantly, drawing in the PRP, which is packed full of healing proteins and growth factors that will stimulate healthy cell growth in your hair follicles.
Your scalp may look and feel a little bit red and tender immediately following your PRP hair loss treatment. This mild after-affect usually reduces within an hour. Most people carry straight on with their day after their appointment. You will be given clear aftercare instructions to help ensure the best outcome.
You may start to see improvement to your hair texture, the thickness of the hair shaft and growth of new hairs in the treated area at around two weeks. Due to the cyclical nature of hair growth, it can take three to six months to see measurable improvements following PRP therapy. Individual results vary.
The hyaluronic acid in Profhilo takes just 28 days to break down within the body so we always recommend a second appointment after four weeks. Together, these two treatments kick start a chain reaction of collagen and elastin production that should be visible for the next six to eight months.
Many people choose to have one or two top-up appointments throughout the year.
A clinical study into PRP therapy for male pattern baldness in 2014 concluded:
PRP injection for androgenic alopecia is a simple, cost-effective and feasible treatment option for hair loss and can be regarded as a valuable adjuvant treatment modality for androgenic alopecia.
Considering its excellent safety profile and relatively low cost, PRP hair treatment is a promising treatment option for patients with thinning hair.
Another study from September 2015 – The Effect of Platelet-Rich Plasma in Hair Regrowth:
A Randomized Placebo-Controlled Trial – found that “the injection of PRP preparations has a positive therapeutic effect on male androgenic alopecia without major side effects”.
You’ll have a thorough consultation with our specialist aesthetic doctor who will go through everything in detail with you, including your personal medical history, hair care routine, and any concerns before you decide whether to go ahead with PRP Therapy.
PRP Therapy for hair loss can be most effective if you still have 60-70% of your hair and suffer from male or female pattern baldness. It won’t give you a full head of hair if you are completely bald. Many people find this an effective treatment if they’re not yet at the stage where a hair transplant would be recommended.
With micro-needling, the puncture wounds created in the skin are usually so small that they don’t cause any pain. You might experience some tenderness but people usually find it tolerable. Your scalp might be slightly red and tender post-treatment but this usually self-resolves quickly.
